Monday Mixed Nuts

Maybe this will spark off a weekly Wahooze tradition?  Who knows?  All I know is that these are some links you need to clickslap and explore on a boring, dull, depressing Monday afternoon...

The Atlanta Journal Constitution's Mark Bradley explores the different ways in which Paul Johnson is slowly killing the Georgia Tech football program.  This was written before their loss at home to Middle Tennessee, so keep that in mind.  To me, it's an extremely interesting take on how hubris behind a gimmicky offensive scheme can cripple a program.  (The human poison that is Al Groh isn't helping either, Wreck fans.)

College Football Opens Up to Spread Offense
Meanwhile, The Daily Progress' Andrew Ramspacher did a quick chronicle of the rise of the college spread, from the angle of LaTech's OC, Tony Franklin.  This came out Friday, before our game against the Bulldogs.  While the piece didn't get nitty gritty with the Xs and Os, I thought it was a fun read.  Important to note: If/when Bill Lazor takes the NFL job he covets, I want us to hire a Franklin-esque spread guru and get with the 21st century of college football.  Spread the field, play fast and loose, and at least make things exciting.  We're currently stockpiling receivers, so it's not a big jump to a spread offense.  And doing so might finally give us an offensive identity!

Looking Back at Groh's Final Recruiting Classes
The Roanoke Times' Doug Doughty hits on what I've been hinting at -- the 2008 and 2009 classes are providing a low glass ceiling for the 2012 UVA football team.  I'll go more in-depth on this in a future post.  Maybe.

Meanwhile, basketball season is getting closer, and we'll start to have some Wahooze content for hoops.  And of course, some thoughts on the observations from baseball fallball.

Stay tuned!
