I want to get this out before the drama of tomorrow unfolds (Mike Scott will be desperate to avenge his ACC POTY snub, the team will be desperate to shove Mark Gottfried's remarks* down his throat, and the Wolfpack will be desperate to maintain its shred of NCAA tournament hope):
If we lose tomorrow, and then lose in the first round of the NCAA tournament, this was still a good year.
Remember that this team was comprised of only 3-star recruits and a low 4-star (Brogdon). Remember the Harrell and Johnson transfers, the Zeglinski slump, the Sene and Brogdon injuries, and the Joe Harris broken hand. Remember that the foundation has been laid via the pack line defense taking root and the players completely buying in to Bennettball. This season is just a start to something fantastic, and if our lack of pure talent and lack of depth jumps up and bites us in the ass this postseason, it was still a very good, very important season for Virginia Basketball.
GO HOOS!
*Here's what Gottfried had to say when asked about NC State's inclusion in the NCAA tournament:
Look at Virginia. They’ve got no wins against the big three in our league and they’ve got the 223rd-ranked non-conference strength of schedule. Yet they seem to be solidly in the field. We could have been ranked [in the Top 25] if we’d scheduled the 223rd-ranked schedule.
Screw you, dude. It's your first year in the ACC, maybe you should be a little bit more respectful of your conference mates. I hope we mercilessly crush this bozo's team tomorrow. Run up the score, pad your stats Mike, and get your rightful crack at Tyler Zeller on Saturday.
I was going to write something clever, than I realized which team from Carolina we were talking about.
ReplyDeleteI'd have even sullied myself for Wake, but not for you Gottfried.
Oh, snap! I've got one. Gottfried? More like gonnaGottfired! HI-O!
HOOS!
Boom. Caleb with the headshot.
