Wahooze Season Preview - NC State, Miami, Maryland

October 22nd- NC State @ Virginia

NC State comes into this season with high hopes, as their team boasts both a great defense and solid offense coming of a 9-4 season in 2010. The only glaring question mark is replacing Groh-failed-to-recruit Russell Wilson at QB. Luckily for the Wolfpack, Groh-missed-recruit Mike Glennon has had plenty of preparation and looks poised to continue the recent success in Raleigh. Mustafa (Mufasa) Greene also returns for the Pack at TB, so Glennon wont need to carry the entire O himself. I think Glennon gets the job done and done well - if not for FSU, State would be a lock in my mind for the ACC Atlantic Division.

Pierce's Preseason Pick- Defeat

Not gonna happen, folks. Maybe by mid October, Rocco and Lazor will have the Hoos' offense cruising and we'll be blissfully free from meaningful injuries - then we'll have a shot, especially because it's a home game. And maybe my dog will find pirate gold buried in our backyard.

October 27th- Virginia @ Miami

Apparently, Miami's been in the news recently. I didn't know being terrible at football was cause for ESPN headlines, but I guess it's a major-market team. Anywho, Al Golden is great coach, so I think he'll have the ship righted for the Canes (on and off the field) sooner than later. The defense is ubertalented, but the offense needs some direction/control. Jacory Harris is done. Suspension or not, he's not the guy for this team this season. Can Stephen Morris be that guy? Possibly.

Pierce's Preseason Pick- Defeat

I think the Cane's defense should be on point by this time in the season. While the Hoos certainly fear nothing from this team and the Orange Bowl atmosphere is short of intimidating, I just think Golden is too good of a coach to lose to us at home. A Thursday night game usually helps the home team, but hey, we saw what happened the last time we played there on prime time TV...

November 5th- Virginia @ Maryland

Maryland is garbage. Their existence is an insult to the conference, the Atlantic Ocean, and the United States of America. Their new coach, while slimmer than the old coach, might even be a downgrade in intelligence and class. Danny O'Brien is a pretty ok QB. I've already written more words than I wanted.

Pierce's Preseason Pick- Screw you, logic. I'm picking a victory.

Why not? We'll have a much clearer idea about both teams by this point - but here in the preseason, speculation is my champion. I think we're going to have a better team by this point - one looking for a conference road victory.
