Excellence.

16 carries, 114 yards, 3 TDs

Trying to get packed to leave for the beach, but I had to squeeze out a few thoughts from Virginia 40, W&M 3:

  • Whelp, beat the spread by a mere 29 points.
  • REVENGE.  So sweet.  The douchenozzle W&M fans were pretty silent, no woof tickets sold in our stadium yesterday.
  • KP had 10K rushing yards and 128 touchdowns in high school.  After a redshirt year to rest his legs, it looks like he's ready to take the reins as the lead dog in our rushing attack.
  • I was also really impressed with Clifton Richardson.  My man ran with power and a nice burst.
  • The D was incredible yesterday.
  • Really excited about what I saw from, specifically, Bill Schautz, Will Hill, and Justin Renfrow.  Schautz was a wildman, all over the place, and delivered the "crunch of the game" when he stuck the RB behind the line for a 5-yard loss.  Hill was getting great pressure up the middle.  And Renfrow played like a tank.  Three young players who look ready to give us some good plays this season.
  • Happy with Mike Rocco.  "Rock" played a solid game, after the gameplan dictated an ultra-ultra-ultra-conservative start.  As things gradually opened up, Rock looked better and better.  He locked onto his receivers, but he also made good decisions (for the most part) and delivered a catchable ball.
  • David Watford is not ready to be our starting quarterback.  Whenever he was in the game, W&M threw a multi-player blitz at him.  Wat handled those blitzes poorly, in general.  Held on to the ball way too long.
  • We have an embarrassment of riches at wide receiver.  I hope the QBs can get the ball in their hands.
  • Loved Darius Jennings yesterday.  Dude's electric.
  • GREAT catch by Tim Smith over the defender on the 40-yard bomb.  Loved it.
  • Tra Nicholson played a great game.  Loved seeing him get that pick.
  • Rob Randolph, omg, omg.  Good from 32, 48, 26, and 42.  None were ever in doubt.  Guy seems ready for a big senior season, and I have a feeling we'll be in multiple games where timely field goals will win the day.
  • 51K fans at the game.  Nice crowd.  The students were there, and they were loud.  I'm quick to smack the mouth, so I also need to be quick to caress the cheek.  The students were good last night.
  • I know it was William & Mary, but this validates a lot of the optimism we were afraid to feel.  I like the look of this team.  Bring on the Hoosiers.
