Alright Wahooze I just finished watching the Sportscenter SEC football preview where they picked Alabama to win it all assuming they get solid QB play from whoever wins their QB battle, which at this point looks like it will be Phillip Sims, the pride of Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, VA. This got me thinking what happened to all the top QB recruits in Virginia over the last few years that we let get away with poor recruiting. I went through the rivals top 25 of Virginia over the last 5 years to pick out the top buy and figure out where they ended up and how they are doing. Let’s start with the most recent.
2011- David Watford (UVA)
Glad the new regime took this seriously. Watford looks like he will be groomed this year to take over for the next 3 years. With a ton of talent Watford looks like the real deal and hopefully can throw to the arsenal of receivers we are bringing in.
2010- Phillip Sims (Alabama)
Poised to take over the starting job of the preseason number 2 team in the country. Rumored to be transferring back home to UVA over the summer but stuck around and now will most likely land a national championship before he ends up leaving.
2009- Logan Thomas (Virginia Tech)
Apparently is the second coming of Jesus Christ himself. If I have to listen to another Tech fan tell me how great he is I may have my head explode. I’ve always wanted to convert a Tight End to QB and then entrust my allegedly elite football program to him.
2008- EJ Manuel (Florida State)
Starter for the number 5 team in the country. One of the favorites for ACC offensive player of the year. Manuel looks like a stud and will probably roll through the ACC.
2007 - Tyrod Taylor (Virginia Tech)
Absolute beast. As much as I want to hate him I can’t deny that he was one of the better QBs to come out of the state in a long time. He now plays on the Ravens and is one play away from being a starter.
Peter Lalich (UVA)
Greatness. This redshirt senior is leading the nationally ranked cavaliers to what should be the ACC championship this season. Leader of an impressive aerial assault Lalich displays the maturity and intelligence of a young Peyton Manning. Oh sorry I just woke up from a dream. This kid probably cost not only Al Groh his job but also set UVA back for a few years by us not recruiting a QB. Screw you.
Good stuff, Mike. Plays out like a freaking Greek Tragedy for the Hoos - hopefully Watford is the happy ending
