Second Number: 8 missed free throws. 14-for-22 from the line. 63.64%
Despite Sammy Zeglinski's illness and continued slump, we would have won that game last night if Joe Harris (0-3), Paul Jesperson (0-1), or Malcolm Brogdon (0-2) had been able to connect on any of their three-point attempts, or if Jontel Evans (1-5) and Joe Harris (2-4) hadn't sucked from the line. (Or if Jontel Evans had been willing to dish to a teammate on the fast break, but that might just be me piling on a player I do not like.)
I hate losing to Virginia Tech. HATE it. It's like an ingrown toenail, or a fuzzy tongue after burning your mouth on coffee that's too hot. It stings, and the loss sticks with me for a few days.
Boston College on Thursday. If we don't handle business in that game, time to raise the red flag. For now, I'm willing to chalk last night's loss up to poor shooting and bad luck against a team that had its back up against the wall after starting 0-4 in conference play.
This is how things go with Bennettball. If shots aren't falling, we're susceptible against athletic teams that can get to the rim. VT fits that description. besides, we did hold them to 47 points... given an even mediocre offensive performance, we would have won that game by double-digits.

I think Mike is about to submit a post suggesting we bench Sammy and longing for KT Harrell or some such nonsense. Obviously, Zeglinski's 0-for-6 from downtown hurt us last night, but he's a streak shooter who's just ice cold right now... gotta let him gun through the slump and get back on track. At least he's not a QUITTER like Harrell is.
